A Flash Walk Cycle is easier than you
think. This Basic Walk Cycle is only 6 frames looping which is tweened across
the screen to give the illusion of movement. Sound easy enough? It gets
even easier!
You really only have to create 3 frames. Notice how frame 1 looks
a lot Like frame 3? That is because they are almost the same. When
animating a walk cycle think "RIGHT FOOT", "LEFT FOOT". This is a great
way to break down the walk (or run, skipping, etc) cycle. The right
foot goes through a full cycle and the left foot goes through the same
full cycle but at the opposite time. Confused? Don't be...
The right and the left foot do the same movement only at opposite
times, if the right foot is all the way "forward position" then the
left foot will be all the way "back position" and the same is true for
the hands.
Lets break it down! The left cycle is in a tinted NAVY, the right cycle is in BLACK...... ready?
The Breakdown:
(Right Cycle)
Frame 1 Right foot is all the way back, pushing
off the ground. Left foot is extended forward striking the ground.
Right arm is forward, left arm is back
Frame 2 Right foot has just pushed off the
ground and is starting forward. Left foot is at full contact center.
Right arm is moving backwards, left arm is moving forward
Frame 3 Right foot is in a upward forward moment.
Left foot is still on the ground beginning the push off. Right arm is
full back, Left arm is full forward.
(Left Cycle)
Frame 4 Left foot is all the way back, pushing
off the ground. Left foot is extended forward striking the ground. Left
arm is forward, Right arm is back
Frame 5 Left foot has just pushed off the ground
and is starting forward. Right foot is at full contact center. Left arm
is moving backwards, Right arm is moving forward
Frame 6 Left foot is in an upward forward moment.
Right foot still on the ground beginning the push off. Left arm is full
back, Right arm is full forward.
